چکیده
Mitochondrial displacement loop (mt D-loop) sequence analyses have greatly improved assessments of genetic diversity, structure, and population dynamics endangered species threatened by climate change habitat loss. Tracking haplotypes these using mitochondrial-based markers has opened new avenues for conservation genomics biodiversity research. Recent studies used mt D-loop sequences to assess the diversity largest land mammal in Asia, Asian elephant (Elephas maximus), whose populations are rapidly declining. Here, we review haplotype data from sequencing highlight previous population-scale hypotheses pertaining origin diverse profiles elephants. Retrieving information can substantially improve estimations different parameters relevant their allow introgression/hybridization dissection variation shed light on ongoing evolutionary processes.

D-loop haplotype diversity in Brazilian horse breeds
The first horses were brought to Brazil by the colonizers after 1534. Over the centuries, these animals evolved and adapted to local environmental conditions usually unsuitable for exotic breeds, thereby originating locally adapted Brazilian breeds. The present work represents the first description of maternal genetic diversity in these horse breeds based on D-loop sequences. A D-Loop HSV-I fra...
متن کاملPhylogenetic relationships of the Hucul horse from Romania inferred from mitochondrial D-loop variation.
The existence of the Hucul horse on Romanian territory has been documented from the very distant past; today Hucul is a unique breed that is part of the FAO Program for the Preservation of Animal Genetic Resources. We compared Hucul with several primitive European and Asiatic breeds in order to elucidate the origin of these horses. We analyzed a 683-bp mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) D-loop fra...
متن کاملMitochondrial uncoupling proteins: new perspectives for evolutionary ecologists.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced damage on host cells and molecules has been considered the most likely proximal mechanism responsible for the age-related decline in organismal performance. Organisms have two possible ways to reduce the negative effect of ROS: disposing of effective antioxidant defenses and minimizing ROS production. The unbalance between the amount of ROS produced and the...
متن کاملHaplotype diversity and phylogenetic relationships among the Iberian barbels (Barbus, Cyprinidae) reveal two evolutionary lineages.
The phylogenetic relationships and haplotype diversity of all Iberian barbels were examined by analyzing the complete mitochondrial cytochrome b gene sequence (1141 bp) of 72 specimens from 59 Iberian localities. Phylogenetic findings demonstrated a clear distinction between two mitochondrial lineages and confirmed the existence of two previously considered subgenera: Barbus and Luciobarbus: Th...
متن کاملMitochondrial DNA diversity in Southeast Asian populations.
In a previous study of Southeast Asian genetic variation, we characterized mitochondrial DNAs (mtDNAs) from six populations through high-resolution restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. Our analysis revealed that these Southeast Asian populations were genetically similar to each other, suggesting they had a common origin. However, other patterns of population associations al...
